We may not realize the impact of the psychological changes that we will face when moving into retirement.
We may experience
- loss of strong friendships with work colleagues,
- moving from a high paced job or one of great authority,
- learning how to co-habit with both spouses at home or one spouse retired, and the other spouse stills work,
- a sense of loss of purpose
- a realization our job was the main source of our identity (especially an issue for men).
- a sense of now what?
The focus of Mindful Retirement is on the early stages of transitioning from work life to establishing the retirement you want to have.
I ask people when you die how do you want to describe this last season of your life. Would it be it was a time of beauty and grace, or I discovered me, or as one person told me, I do not want to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting “holy sh… what a ride!”[1]
What life do you want to live? The choice is yours.
Hello and welcome to Mindful Retirement
